AIIA National Conference 2018

The AIIA 2018 National Conference was an opportunity to engage and promote understanding of Australia’s foreign policy. Building on the success of previous years, the AIIA 2018 National Conference brought together some of Australia’s leading experts in international affairs to discuss foreign policy objectives and priorities in world affairs. Highlights included:
- Participation from more than 360 attendees, including more than 20 ambassadors and diplomats and other members of the diplomatic corps;
- Keynote speeches by Senator the Hon Marise Payne, Senator the Hon Penny Wong and Allan Gyngell AO FAIIA;
- Extraordinary coverage of the conference on mainstream and social media, with #AIIA18 becoming 5th most popular topic on Twitter Australia-wide that day and a national trending topic for two days;
- Engaging speeches and discussion led by prominent figures and experts;
- Excellent feedback from conference attendees, including an overall quality rating of 4.5 out of 5;
- A successful Masterclass program held at the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, providing a chance for early career professionals and students to engage in intimate discussions with leading experts in their field;
- A fantastic reception at the Polish Embassy on the night before the conference for Masterclass participants, leaders and other esteemed guests;
- High levels of youth engagement with more than 130 students in attendance.
