The AIIA 2017 National Conference was an opportunity to engage and promote understanding of Australia’s foreign policy. Building on the success of previous years, the AIIA 2017 National Conference brought together some of Australia’s leading experts in international affairs to discuss foreign policy objectives and priorities in world affairs. Highlights included:
- Record participation with more than 380 attendees, including more than 25 foreign ambassadors and diplomats;
- Keynote speeches by the Hon Julie Bishop MP, Senator the Hon Penny Wong and the Hon Kim Beazley AC FAIIA;
- Extraordinary coverage of the conference on mainstream and social media, with #AIIA17 becoming #1 most popular topic on Twitter Australia-wide that day;
- Engaging panel debates covering trade, security and contemporary global issues;
- A successful Masterclass program at the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, providing a chance for early career professionals and students to engage in intimate discussions with leading experts in their field;
- High levels of youth engagement with more than 130 students in attendance.
