The AIIA is an independent, non-profit organisation seeking to promote interest in and understanding of international affairs in Australia. The AIIA operates nationally through state branches with a national office to coordinate and spread ideas developed in the state to target its diverse demographic and respond to local needs. The ability of the institute to achieve these objectives depends directly on the nature and favourability of its internal and external environments. The Tasmanian Branch of the AIIA provides a forum for discussion and debate, but does not seek to formulate or promote its own institutional views. It aims to increase awareness through its events, publications and presence in the community while not advocating its own view.
