Venezuela 2016: Crisis and the path ahead

Dr Sanchez Urribarri discusses the deteriorating political and economic situation in Venezuela following the shift in leadership in 2013 with the untimely death of President Hugo Chavez. Dr Urribarri offers insights into the potential solutions the country could adopt in order to stabilize the state.

Dr Raul Sanchez Urribarri is a Lecturer in Legal Studies at the Department of Social Inquiry, La Trobe University (Melbourne). He holds a PhD in Political Science from the University of South Carolina, and law degrees from the University of Cambridge (LLM), and Universidad Catolica Adres Bello (Caracas, Venezuela). His research focuses on democracy, rule of law and comparative judicial studies, with an emphasis on Latin America, and has been published in well regarded academic journals, edited volumes and other outlets. Dr Sanchez Urribarri has taught Law and Development, Policing, Research Methods, and several other subjects in Legal Studies, Politics, and Latin American Studies, at La Trobe University and previously at Tulane University (New Orleans, LA).
