Mr Carlisle Richardson examines the “special case” of Small Island Developing States, which confront unique vulnerabilities and challenges as they seek to meet their economic, environmental and social targets. Mr Richardson also looks at these states’ role in the sustainable development discussion, as well as the way forward within the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the era of the Sustainable Development Goals.

Carlisle Richardson was a former Ambassador to St Kitts and Nevis to the United Nations and former Sustainable Development Officer of the United Nations. He was one of the organisers of the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development (Rio+20) as well as the Third International Conference on Small Island Developing States. He also worked on the formulation of the Sustainable Development Goals. Mr Richardson is the author of “Island Journeys: The Impact of the Island Way of Life at Home and Abroad”, and is currently researching his next book on Small Island Developing States in the UN. He holds a Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Economics and History, a Post Graduate Diploma in International Relations from the University of the West Indies, and a Masters of Arts in International Relations from the University of Sussex.
