The Australian Institute of International Affairs was pleased to be involved in the second round of DFAT’s civil society consultations regarding Australia’s seat on the UN Security Council, on Thursday 12 December.

Chaired by UNSC Taskforce Head, Jon Merrill, the consultations provided over 40 civil society groups, academics and advocates with the opportunity to put forward their recommendations for Australia’s remaining time on the UNSC.

The instructive exchange of views highlighted economic growth and human security, and a focus on practical solutions as key means of advancing Australia’s national interest.

The AIIA looks forward to participating in future consultations in 2014.
