Sri Lanka Study Tour – July 2016 – Registration of Interest
We have organised a Study Tour to Sri Lanka in July this year from the 9th to the 22nd.
Please click here to view the Brochure with all the details.
The Study Tour is being led by David Ritchie who was Australia’s High Commissioner in Sri Lanka from 1996 to 1999.
We will spend a little over half our time visiting World Heritage and other sites. The remaining time will be spent in meetings with various NGOs, Government Ministers, Think Tanks and others. We will be travelling in an air conditioned Coach for most of the time except for a very pretty train ride from Kandy to Colombo.
The Sri Lanka Minister of Foreign Affairs met with us recently at Dyason House to help us pave the way for our Study Tour. On Wednesday May 25th the Sri Lanka High Commissioner, His Excellency Mr Skandakumar, will visit Melbourne to give us a final briefing.
Mr Skandakumar said: “I wish to commend the initiative of the AIIA in organising this Study Tour. In addition to an exposure to our heritage and culture, participants will have a unique opportunity to see firsthand the consequences of a long conflict and the positive steps taken since its end towards rehabilitation, reconstruction and reconciliation. Hopefully with assistance from our international partners these steps will pave the way for prosperity through a modern economy that embraces all our people”.
I cannot emphasise how important this Study Tour is to both Sri Lanka and Australia as we strengthen our relations.
All accommodation is in Three and Four Star hotels including the famous Galle Face Hotel in Colombo; all of which I have checked out on their websites and all of which are recommended by the Travel Agent.
The Study Tour will comprise a total of not more than 25 Members.
Both Kathie Derham Moore and I are looking forward to this very exciting Study Tour.
