New Year Message
Warmest wishes to all our members and subscribers for the year ahead. Many thanks to you all for your support during the past year.
Our annual Charteris Oration was delivered on 27th November by the Governor of New South Wales and our Patron, HE The Hon Margaret Beazley. She spoke of the need for action to implement international commitments under anti slavery and slavery-like working conditions. The text of her address is on our news page.
Our year ended with a delightful Christmas party, at which veteran ABC journalist Tim Bowden introduced us to his recent book Larrikins in Khaki. Here is a link to a review by my predecessor, Richard Broinowski AO:

The new year for AIIA NSW will begin on Tuesday 18 February with an address by eminent international journalist Peter Hartcher, who will speak on the issues facing us in international affairs in the year ahead.
On 25 February, we have invited Paul Kelly, veteran News Media journalist and commentator, to receive his award as a Fellow of the AIIA and to address us on a topic of his choice.
On 3 March we have scheduled a talk to bring us up-to-date on Brexit and the British political situation.
On 10 March senior journalist and former defence adviser Brian Toohey will speak on his recently-published history of Australian intelligence organisations.
On 17 March Emeritus Professor John Wong (Sydney University) will speak on “Hong Kong 1841-2019: from a barren rock to a barren rock”.
We will not be holding a meeting on Tuesday 14 April, the day after the Easter weekend.
On 21 April the CEO of Austrade, Dr Stephanie Fahey, will address us on growing challenges to the orderly conduct of international trade
We look forward to seeing you at our events during what promises to be a busy and eventful year.
With best wishes
