Euan Crone Scholarship Recipients 2016
In 2013, Euan Crone, a member of AIIA Victoria, established a charitable endowment fund for the purpose of offering a scholarship to young Australians. Applicants must be Australian citizens or permanent residents and also members of the AIIA in any Australian state or territory. Grants of up to $5,000 are available to young Australians who want to deepen their awareness of Asia.
The 2016 recipients of the Euan Crone Asian Awareness Scholarship were announced at the AIIA National Conference on 21 November. Four successful candidates were chosen: Emily Boyd from Queensland; Thomas Brown from South Australia; Susannah Scaturchio from the Northern Territory; and Ben Archer from the Australian Capital Territory.
Emily Boyd will use her scholarship to travel to Indonesia. Here, she will conduct research on farming practices across Java and Bali. This will contribute to her studies of sustainable agriculture in Australia.
Thomas Brown will use the scholarship for support while undertaking research on early childhood education in Jakarta with the World Bank.
Susannah Scaturchio will travel to Indonesia to undertake studies in traditional art and craft techniques. She will then use the knowledge to educate her own students in Darwin.
Ben Archer will use his award to undertake an intensive marketing and entrepreneurship course in China. This knowledge will help him educate his high school students in Australia about Chinese business practices.
