On Thursday 5th September the Institute held a careers event attended by around 80 university students and young professionals interested in international careers.

Ryan Neelam, deputy director of the Foreign Affairs office in New South Wales, drew on his experience as a policy officer in Canberra and on postings in New York and Sydney to describe the work carried out by a diplomatic officer and the varied and interesting life this career offered.

Freya Zemek, Corporate Engagement and Special Projects Officer at the United States Study Centre and former AIIA NSW councillor, explained the way in which opportunities offered by networking and internships had led into a range of interesting and substantive career options.

Martin Roa Skramstad, Chairman of Professionals in International Trade, discussed his international career in non-government organisations and the ways in which opportunities had presented themselves in a range of countries, providing career and personal satisfactions.

Following the addresses and question time, audience members discussed experiences and career opportunities with some members of the AIIA NSW council.
