The Australian Institute of International Affairs Queensland is pleased to announce the AIIA Queensland Award 2015 has been awarded to Yassmin Abdel-Magied.

The AIIA Queensland Award serves to recognise those who have made significant achievements in international affairs.

A go getter from a young age, Yassmin has aimed to empower young people and women to be active in public roles, as well as diversifying public voices to reflect Australia’s multicultural population. At only 16 she founded the organisation Youth Without Borders, was awarded the University of Queensland’s Dean’s Excellence Scholarship and graduated as Valedictorian of her class with a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering (Honours) in 2011.

Her achievements catapulted Yassmin into her advocacy work, currently as a Board Director for Childfund Australia and a host of other leadership positions. Yassmin finds time to regularly present public lectures, write for publications and even write her own memoir.
She was an influential voice in ensuring the representation of young people at the G20 2014 summit.

Yassmin’s achievement was celebrated on 25 February 2016 with a presentation by the Patron of AIIA Queensland, His Excellency the Honourable Paul de Jersey AC, Governor of Queensland.
