Published 19 Jul 2019

AIIA National Executive Director Dr Bryce Wakefield participated in the ninth edition of the Australian National University’s Asia Pacific Week conference, which ran from June 30 to July 5, 2019.

Dr Wakefield spoke on the conference’s politics, power and change panel. The panel specifically focused on both the historical and contemporary methods through which political parties achieve power throughout the Asia-pacific region. The panel also touched on the rise of populism and the impact of technology on domestic politics and power structures.

Dr Wakefield appeared alongside ANU Professor Raihan Ismail and ANU PhD candidate Liam Gammon.

The ANU’s Asia Pacific Week is an “interdisciplinary, student-run conference aimed at high-achieving students and young professionals from around the world with an interest in Asia and the Pacific.” Guided by the theme “New Horizons: Identities, Challenges, and Opportunities”, the 2019 iteration of the conference specifically considered the Asia Pacific region’s future prospects and challenges.
