The event, open to AIIA members, took place at government house in Perth. Bishop spoke on the continuing importance of a rules-based international order in a world where increased populism and geostrategic positioning are undermining that order.

WA Governor Kim Beazely made introductory remarks emphasising the importance of the institute in creating a platform for debate on international affairs. AIIA WA branch president also spoke, noting that the award was given to a select few among a wide range of nominees.
