From 23-27 April 2018, members of the AIIA attended the AIIA Delegation to the Republic of China (Taiwan) to discuss topics such as Taiwan-Australia relations, Taiwan’s New Southbound Policy, Australia’s Security Strategy and Foreign Policy.

Those who attended from the AIIA were National President Mr. Allan Gyngell AO FAIIA, National Vice-President Ms. Zara Kimpton OAM, Co-Editor of the Australian Journal of International Affairs Professor Ian Hall, AIIA NSW Vice-President Thom Dixon and former Vice-President of AIIA Queensland Professor Caitlin Byrne.

Over the course of the delegation, a number of speakers took a stand to discuss some important topics which affect both the R.O.C (Taiwan) and Australia. These speakers included R.O.C Foreign Minister Dr. Jaushieh Joseph Wu, Program Director of the Taiwan ASEAN Studies Centre Kristy Tsun-Tzu Hsu, Associate Dean Dr. Yu-tzung Chang of the National Taiwan University, and the Chairman of The Prospect Foundation Dr. Tan-Sun Chen.

The AIIA is extremely grateful for being given the opportunity to engage with leaders of the R.O.C (Taiwan) and to not only discuss some of the most important issues affecting our world today, but to experience the culture and learn of the history within Taiwan.
