A Brief History of Propaganda During Conflict: Lessons for Counterterrorism Strategic Communications

The AIIA’s Research Impact Award winner, Dr Haroro J. Ingram, has recently published a paper for the International Centre for Counter-Terrorism’s (ICCT) Counterterrorism Strategic Communications Project. The paper is titled A brief history of propaganda during conflict: Lessons for counterterrorism strategic communications. Dr Ingram’s paper traces evolving propaganda strategies throughout history, drawing lessons for current and future strategic communications campaigns.

In addition to Dr Ingram’s ICCT research, he has co-authored a publication in War on the Rocks with Dr Craig Whiteside titled Don’t Kill the Caliph. The article examines some of the implications of decapitation strikes, analysing the influence of leadership change within the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL).
