Following her article on Australian Outlook analysing the reasons why Turkey is stalling on its security commitments to join the US-led coalition against the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant, research intern and editor of Australian Outlook Hale Yildiz was invited to appear on Sky News Reporting Live with international editor Stan Grant on Monday 13 October.

Here, Hale discusses the challenges Turkey faces in the possibility of its full involvement in the campaign against fighting ISIL militants who have recently taken the Syrian-Kurdish town of Kobane less than a mile from the Turkish border. The two key challenges Turkey is currently faced with are the Kurdish issue, in the form of current Kurdish dissent for Turkey’s inaction, and the refugee crisis that is increasingly becoming a humanitarian strain for the country.
