In an increasingly fluid international strategic environment, too few media outlets seek to engage Australians in foreign affairs. Regular news stories and analysis can foster people’s broader interest and engagement in foreign policy; but much of the media saves its attention for crises.

The result is ignorance about the value of the instruments and efforts that help to maintain peace based on a global rules-based order. Are Australians becoming cavalier about a world without major international conflagrations?
