She discusses the entrenchment of the undemocratic military government in implicating Sudan as a deep state. El-Higzi reflects on the power-sharing deals that have arisen through international mediation, the lessons to be learned from international intervention in conflict states and, Australia’s role locally, in respect to Sudanese refugees, and regionally through strategic relations with China and the US.

Faiza El-Higzi is a political scientist and social justice advocate. Faiza has worked in multiple public policy roles in Australia at both state and federal levels.
