Since the election of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2014, Indian foreign policy has become more proactive in reaching out to the world both on land and sea.

Under Modi’s administration, India has signed a historic land boundary agreement with Bangladesh and has provided humanitarian relief following the Nepal earthquake among other moves to enhance its ties with its neighbours.

With increased prosperity and an energetic leader backed by parliament, India is increasing its global footprint by engaging constructively with other states.

AIIA’s Rashi Yadav spoke with the founding director of Carnegie India Dr C Raja Mohan regarding India’s foreign policy, its approach towards maritime security and its nuclear status. The interview was conducted after Dr Mohan spoke at the 50th anniversary of the Strategic and Defence Studies Centre at the Australian National University.
