Chinese Geoeconomics and its Implications for Australia
China’s ever-growing economic power provides it with the ability to influence the region and its East Asian neighbours. So how is Beijing using its new economic leverage to achieve its strategic ambitions and what are the implications for Australia?
Flavia Bellieni Zimmermann from AIIA for Western Australia discussed China’s geoeconomics and its impact on Australian domestic policy with AIIA Research Chair Professor Mark Beeson in conjunction with an AIIA WA, Murdoch University Department of Politics and International Studies and Confucius Institute event on 27 February.
Mark Beeson is professor of political science and international relations at the University of Western Australia and the AIIA Research Chair, appointed in February 2017. Mark has been published in the Australian Journal of International Affairs and is co-editor of the AIIA’s Navigating the New International Disorder: Australia in World Affairs 2011-2015.
