It is with sadness that we learned of the passing of AIIA Fellow Professor Des Ball on October 12. He was a highly respected academic with a record of significant accomplishments across a number of fields of enquiry, including nuclear deterrence, defence policy, regional security issues, security culture and intelligence.

As well as producing a prodigious volume of published material, often in collaboration with his peers. Des was generous with his time, mentoring many students and junior academics. He will be missed greatly.
